John Bledsoe

 

John Junior Bledsoe, 84, of 523 10th Ave. N, Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012 at home. 

Due to his wishes he will be cremated and a memorial graveside service will be held at a later time in the Clear Lake Cemetery.  Family suggest memorials to John Junior Bledsoe Memorial Fund in care of his daughter Donna Prescott, 46117 212th Ave., Lake Mills, IA 50450

John was born Oct. 10, 1928 in Hartville, Mo., the son of John Adison and Pearl Gean (Nichols) Bledsoe.

Mildred Anderson

 

Mildred Merlea Anderson, 99 years, was born in Algona, Iowa, Jan. 13, 1913 and passed away surrounded by family at her winter home in Bradenton, Fla., on Dec. 25, 2012.  She was 19 days short of her 100th birthday.

  She was a longtime resident of Clear Lake, Iowa, and recently had been living with her daughter and family in Urbandale, Iowa, spending summers in Clear Lake at her cottage on Grandview Point.

Marilyn McKenna

 

Marilyn M. McKenna, age 72, of Clear Lake, most recently of Belmond, Iowa, and formerly of Garner and Livermore, Iowa, a longtime employee of Metal Craft, Mason City, Iowa, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

    Mass of Christian Burial was at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Belmond, with Father Nils Hernandez and Deacon Jerry Temeyer officiating.  Burial was in Livermore.   Andrews Funeral Home, Belmond, was in charge of arrangements.

Clifford Stephenson

 

Clifford Wayne Stephenson, 82, 15 Timberlane Drive, Clear Lake, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

Clifford, son of William and Lora (Ridout) Stephenson was born July 15, 1930 in Winterset, Iowa. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1948 and continued his education at Drake University in Des Moines majoring in music. Cliff enlisted in the Air Force in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1955. Cliff was united in marriage to Norma Jean Myhr, and to this union three children were born, 

Lonnie Bosch

 

Lonnie L. Bosch, 56, of Rockwell, Iowa, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services were held on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Rockwell, with the Rev. Rhea Evanson officiating.  Interment was at the Rockwell Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to the Lonnie Bosch Memorial Fund in care of the family.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com.  

Big changes coming for school conferences

 

School conferences are becoming a numbers game.

On the heels of an announcement that Bishop Garrigan intends to leave the North Central Conference (NCC) and join the North Iowa Conference (NIC), Eagle Grove and Clarion-Goldfield are also considering a change which could spell the end of the 88-year-old NCC.

“Everyone is just trying to figure out what is going on and what will make the most sense,” said Dale Ludwig, activities director for Clear Lake Schools.

Oldies but goodies win Alumni Tournament

 

The 1995-99 team defeated the two-year reigning champion team in the Clear Lake Alumni Basketball Tournament Saturday, Dec. 22 to claim bragging rights.  The team beat the 2005-06 team in the finals to claim the championship.  The 2005-06 team has won the tournament the last two years.  Nine teams and 70 

Boat ramp damaged

 

City crews worked to relieve pressure from the ice at the end of the Main Avenue boat ramp Thursday after ice caused a heave in the concrete ramp.  

Sunset reopens

 

The second half of the school year is beginning in the former Sunset Elementary School for students taking classes through the Lakeside Alternative (School) Program.  The program, serving Garner-Hayfield, Ventura and Clear Lake School District students, had been housed at the Ventura/G-H Middle School in Ventura.

Boy pulled safely from lake’s icy water by friend

 

An 11-year-old Clear Lake boy was pulled to safety Friday after he fell into the icy lake water.

According to Police Chief Greg Peterson, the boy and a 10-year-old friend approached the open water near the aerator operating in the vicinity of the Sea Wall. Fortunately his friend, who is also from Clear Lake, pulled his buddy out of the icy water.
