G-H Board approves moving alternative school to Clear Lake

 

The Garner-Hayfield School Board voted Monday to approve relocating the Lakeside Alternative (School) Program in the former Sunset Elementary School building in Clear Lake.  The program, serving G-H, Ventura and Clear Lake School District students, is currently housed at the Ventura/G-H Middle School in Ventura.

The Clear Lake School Board met in special session Wednesday, Dec. 5, to prepare a formal proposal for relocation of the alternative program. 

J. Steve Shook

 

J. Steve Shook, 64, of 2307 1st Ave. S., Clear Lake, Iowa, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.  

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 at Open Bible Church, Clear Lake, with Pastor Will Hunsaker officiating.  Burial was in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with military honors 

provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W.   Family suggests memorials to Steve Shook memorial fund.

Buford Floy

 

Buford Eugene Floy, 81, Thornton, Iowa, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home.

A memorial service for Buford was held Monday, Dec. 10, 2012 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with Reverend Derik Yarian officiating.  Inurnment will be held at a later date.  

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in his name.

As per Buford’s request his body was cremated.

Mary (Henry) Curran, age 91, passed away quietly Nov. 28, 2012 following a short illness. 

Born in Owatonna, Minn., on Nov. 26, 1921 to her parents, William and Lenna Henry, she spent most of her childhood years in Clear Lake, Iowa, where she graduated from high school. Mary then worked as

Louis Vavrik

 

Louis John Vavrik, 84, Ventura, Iowa, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.

A funeral mass was held Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with Reverend John Gossman officiating.  Burial was in the St. Johns Cemetery in Duncan, Iowa.

Girls team gains momentum, picks up win over Wildcats

 

The Clear Lake girls started the season a bit slow, but continue to build momentum.  The Lions dropped their first game of the season, but rebounded with a win against Humboldt Friday to even their record at 1-1.  This week the Lions traveled to Webster City 

Clear Lake wrestlers off to 5-0 start

 

It looks like the Clear Lake wrestling team has gotten it’s swag back!.  The Lions have jumped out to a 5-0 record after finishing last season with their first losing record in over 20 years.  This week the Lions are at home on Thursday.  Clear Lake will wrestle at an earlier time than usual because they will host a double dual. Varsity and junior varsity will wrestle Eagle Grove at 6 p.m. At 7, Eagle Grove will wrestle Hampton, followed by Clear Lake wrestling Hampton.

State honors for CLHS Dance Team

 

CLHS Dance Team members participated in the Iowa State Dance Team Competition held on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 29 and 30.  The Iowa state competition is officially the nation’s largest state competition, with over 520 routines performed in two days.  Clear Lake
