Chain reaction damages six vehicles, minor injuries

Law enforcement responded to a six-car chain reaction collision Friday afternoon in Clear Lake.

State schedules repairs to boat ramps

    The boat ramps at McIntosh Woods State Park on Clear Lake will close on Monday, June 18, to allow workers to install concrete pad extensions to eliminate scour holes that developed at the end of the ramps. The ramps will reopen on June 22.

Lions keep rolling with five more wins

    Clear Lake baseball rolled through the competition this week, recording five quality wins.  The Lions, ranked seventh in Class 3A, are now 7-2 overall.  Tonight (Wednesday, June 6), the Lions will play a big conference game at home against St. Ed’s,  the defending North Central Conference champions, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Eva Marie Danner, 85, of Mason City, Iowa died Friday, June 1, 2012 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
    Due to her wishes she will be cremated and a private memorial service will be held at a later time.  Inurnment will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood, Iowa.  Family suggests memorials to Hospice of North Iowa.

    Janelle C. Harrington, 67, of 5 Venetian Drive, Clear Lake, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at her home.  A memorial Mass was held Monday, June 4, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Joseph Slepika as celebrant.  Inurnment was held in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.

Clear Lake ends record-setting soccer season

    Number six ranked (1A) Nevada ended Clear Lake’s record-setting soccer season Friday.  Nevada was a 1-0 winner in the Regional semi-final played Friday at Nevada. The Lions concluded the 2012 season with a 9-5 record-- the most wins in the program’s history.

Trapshooting team wins State title

    The Mason City Red trapshooting team, which included Mike Asbe from Clear Lake, won the Iowa High School State Trap Shoot Saturday in Cedar Falls.  The event was hosted by the Iowa State Trapshooting Association.

CL softball team picks up first win of the season against Algona

The Clear Lake girls softball team earned its first win of the season during a busy holiday week.  The Lions also dropped five contests to various North Iowa powers.

School Board hires new high school principal

    The Clear Lake School Board welcomed a new administrator Monday night.  The Board approved the hiring of Chris Murphy as its new high school principal.
    Murphy, 36, is currently employed as a school improvement leader in the Des Moines Public School System.  He has held that position for six years.  Murphy’s experience also includes serving as dean of students for a high school alternative school and middle school.
