Sadie Deets

    Sadie E. Deets, 87, of Britt, Iowa and formerly of Clear Lake, died Friday, Sept. 2, 2011 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
    A celebration of life service was held Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Summit House in Britt for friends and family.  A private inurnment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

June Birdsell

    June A. Birdsell, 88, of Clear Lake, and most recently a resident of Apple Valley Assisted Living, passed away Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.
    A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church with the Rev. Diana Hoover officiating.

Vikes come up short despite scoring frenzy

If there is one thing that can be said about eight man football - it is not boring.  The game Friday night at Ventura against Tripoli was no exception, as a total of 16 touchdowns were scored.  Unfortunately, the seven touchdowns Ventura scored weren’t enough to take down the Panthers.  They fell, 64-51, in the high-scoring showdown.

Clear Lake volleyball team drops matches in triangular meet

    The Clear Lake volleyball team met up with some tough competition in a triangular match Thursday.  Third ranked (3A) Charles City and (4A) Mason City both swept the Lions.
    Charles City cruised to a 25-8, 25-5 win, while the match with Mohawks was closer, 25-14, 25-20.

Clear Lake cross country teams compete at Belmond

Clear Lake cross county teams were at Belmond Tuesday, Sept. 6, to compete in the B-K Invitational.  The Lions girls posted a third place finish as a team, while the boys were fourth overall.
    This week the Lions invite the public to cheer them on at their home meet at the Baptist Camp Thursday, Sept. 16, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Opportunity Village will mark 40th anniversary with special events

    Forty years ago, on Sept. 15, the first cottage opened at Handicap Village in Clear Lake, as a home for adults with disabilities.  Today, known as Opportunity Village, the non-profit charitable organization serves more than 600 people throughout north central Iowa.

Ventura, G-H Boards schedule joint meeting

The Ventura and Garner-Hayfield School Boards will hold a joint meeting tonight (Wednesday, Sept. 14) at Ventura High School to discuss sharing of all athletics (grades 7-12) and all activities such as speech and drama (grades 9-12) for the 2012-2013 school year.

    The boards are also slated to continue their talks about possible whole grade sharing between the districts.

Ventura School Board member resigns

Persons interested in serving  invited to submit names

 

    Ventura School Board member Carol Prescott has officially submitted her resignation to the board.
    Board Secretary Nancy Watson said Prescott handed in her resignation at the Sept. 5 board meeting.  The group must now fill the vacancy within 30 days of her resignation.  Any resident of the Ventura District interested in filling Prescott’s term until the next election in September 2013 is asked to contact Watson at Ventura Schools 641-829-4482.
