CL finishes third at NCC Meet

The Clear Lake boys golf team finished third at the North Central Conference Tournament played Monday, May 11, at the Algona Country Club.  The Lions’ Dane Waldron placed third with a (41-38) 79.  Humboldt’s Christian Birdsell also carded a 79.  Webster City, led by Avery Fuhs’ 78, won the team title with a score of 322.  Humboldt was second with 325 and the Lions posted a 328.

Tanner Storbeck joined Waldron as an all-conference golfer.  The senior carded an (39-42) 81 to place eighth.

“We had a good showing by all six golfers with respectable scores,” said Head Coach Eric Perry following the tournament.  “However, these scores will be hard to advance down the the stretch.   I know they are capable of shooting a little better.”

Kyle Calaguas (41-43) and Austin Rurup (43-41) provided counting scores for the Lions.  Both golfers shots 84s.  Jon Carew came in with an (42-44) 86 and Thomas Storbeck shot a  (48-45) 93.

“The weather was really bad, the worst of the year.  I look forward to working with this group, watching their scores drop and reaching their goals,” added Coach Perry.

For the NCC tourney, Assistant Coach Mike Oimoen stepped in as head coach due to health concerns Perry had over the weekend.

“I took great pride watching Mike coach.  He was the most confident and intelligent golfers I’ve ever coached, therefore the boys were in good hands,” said Perry.
