GHV sends 10 events to State Track competition
It was a big week on the blue oval for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys and girls track teams. The Cardinals qualified 10 events, so there was a lot of action at the State Track meet for GHV fans to watch.
Chase Smith was the highest placing GHV competitor. Smith placed fifth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 9:45.77. Another long distance runner, Logan Dahlbeck was 14th in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:37.00.
Ezra Marroquin also had a good week, placing seventh in the 400 meter run and 17th in the 200 meter run. He ran the 400 in 50.98 and the 200 in 23.15.
Sam Cataldo placed 15th in the 110 meter hurdles, completing the race in 15.57. He was 13th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 56.47. He also anchored the shuttle hurdle relay. The group also consisting of Conner Shaw, David Cook and JJ Loschen placed 17th with a time of 1:02.03.
The Distance Medley team of Loschen, Kevin Boehnke, Ezra Marroquin and Johnathan O’Connor placed 20th with a time of 3:44.00.
The 4x100 relay team of Marroquin, Boehnke, Cook and Loschen did not finish the race.
“The boys had great performances at State, many personal bests. The team as a whole should be very proud of their accomplishments this year. It has already motivated them for next year,” said Coach Kelsey Steffens.
Of the 12 boys that qualified for State, nine will be returning next year.
For the girls team, the shuttle hurdle relay placed 18th with a time of 1:11.72. The team consisted of Miranda Jackson, Jillian Heitland, Brooklyn Ossmon and Stacy Hackenmiller.
