GHV girls pick up three wins
It was a successful week for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura softball team, as they picked up three wins, moving their record to 10-7 overall.
GHV 11, Algona 9
The bats were swinging Monday night, June 15, when the Cardinals traveled to Algona. GHV combined for a total of 20 hits in a 10-inning game, while the Bulldogs had 16 hits. The Cardinals won the slug fest, 11-9.
Pitcher Brooklynn Ossman pitched all 10 innings. She struck out three and walked one.
Miranda Jackson led the offense with five hits, including one double, three RBIs and she scored one run. Ossman also had a hot bat, with four hits and one RBI. Recording two hits apiece were Tiara Van Gerpen, Mallory Van Oort and Grace Tusha. Jayden Hughes scored the most runs with two. She also led the team in stolen bases with three.
GHV 9, Clarion 7
Mackenzie Van Gerpen smacked a home run that brought in two runners to lead the Cardinals past Clarion-Goldfield on Thursday, June 18. The Cardinals topped C-G, 9-7.
Ossman got the win on the mound. She struck out two batters, gave up four hits and three runs. Jillian Heitland also saw some time on the mound. She struck out one batter, gave up five hits and four runs.
Van Oort, Tusha and Payton Bamrick all recorded doubles. Collecting two RBIs apiece were Van Oort, Van Gerpen and Bamrick.
Jayden Hughes scored three of the Cardinals’ nine runs and she had three stolen bases. Mackenzie Van Gerpen also stole three bases and Tiara Van Gerpen had two stolen bases.
GHV 4, Forest City 0
The GHV softball team recorded a shut-out on the road against Forest City on Friday, June 19.
Pitcher Brooklynn Ossman pitched all seven innings, allowing six hits. She also struck-out four batters.
Tiara Van Gerpen led the Cardinal offense, recording three hits. She also scored one run and had two stolen bases. Heitland had two hits and crossed the plate for one run. Recording one run apiece was Jackson, Van Oort and Bamrick. Van Oort recorded two RBIs on her single.
Scoring GHV’s other two runs was Katie Oetken and Hughes.
