Gertrude Thoe

Gertrude J. Thoe, 96, of Marshalltown, Iowa, formerly of Webster City, Iowa died Monday, Aug. 10, 2015 at the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown.

Graveside services will be held at  11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, at the Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake. The family suggests memorials to Alzheimer’s Research or charity of your choice.

Gertrude Julia Thoe was born June 3, 1919 in Spring Valley, Minn., the daughter of Gjert Peter and Julia (Moen) Oss.  She received her elementary and high school education at Spring Valley and her cosmetology degree at Fort Dodge, Iowa.

She married Emery Thoe in 1941, in Mason City, Iowa.  Besides being a wife and mother she was a nurse’s aide for 10 years and cosmetologist for 25 years.  They resided in Clear Lake and later moved to Webster City in 1957.

She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary and Royal Neighbors Lodge, in Webster City, and Red Hat Ladies, Marshalltown.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gjert and Julia Oss; husband, Emery (Bud) Thoe; her sons, Emery Richard Thoe and Gerald Lee Thoe; her half-brother, John Oss; and sister- in-law, Willie Oss.

She is survived by two children, Larry Donald (Kay) Thoe, Fairmont, Minn., and Pamela Sue (Roger) Roth, Evansdale, Iowa, and a daughter-in-law, Elaine Thoe, Colorado Springs, Colo.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Calvin (Mary Lou) Oss, Minneapolis, Minn. and Donald (Mary Jo Dathe) Oss, Spring Valley, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
