A lack of rain has caused the State Conservation Commission to issue a warning to campers, picnickers, fishermen and anyone enjoying the outdoors to be careful with fires and cigarettes in these dry conditions.

The Ventura Viking Football team goes into a new season with a new coach in Bill Comstock.  The team will also return 10 lettermen.  Returners include Tom Anderson, Russ Hanson, Doug Robbins, Herb Garlock, Rick Hopper, Ken Lundgren, Dave Oehlert, Dan Roenfanz, Chuck Stapleton and Jerry Kramer.

A new thrill for the North Iowa Fair this year was chuckwagon races.  Besides the racing, other fine grandstand shows are planned for the fair including stock car races, amateur rodeo, and a variety show featuring Smiley Burnette.
