50 Years Ago September 1965

Tom Jolas, a Mason City attorney, who played a key role in the drive to route Interstate 35 through this area said the big road will be the “greatest thing Clear Lake will see in 50 years.”  Jolas gave his speech to the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce at their annual banquet.

Six candidates will vie for two director posts on the Clear Lake School Board.  Those running include: Lester Godden, Dr. Tom Joslyn, Mrs. Joe Jensen, Bill Eaton, Homer Bienfang and Denzil Hoskins.

The grand opening of Ken’s Champlin Service, 101 So. 3rd St., Clear Lake, will be held Friday and Saturday.  The store is owned by Ken Huntley.

Playing at the Lake Theater is “Up From the Beach,” starring Cliff Robertson and Red Buttons.  Also playing is “Lord Jim,” starring Peter O’Toole.
