Workers have begun tearing up North Shore Drive as part of the final phase of reconstruction for the road.  Most of the work at present is being done on the west end of the project, from Clark Road east to North Shore Estates.

A political challenge to debate posed by Merlin Bartz, Republican candidate for the Iowa House District 19 has been re-issued to incumbent Dennis May, Democrat.  The Bartz campaign re-issued the challenge saying May had failed to respond formally to his Aug. 27, 1990 letter in which he proposed  a schedule of three debates in each county represented by the House seat.  May replied that he was busy with a couple of interim committees in Des Moines and was engaged in farming.  “Mr. Bartz can devote his full-time to this, but my situation is a little different,” said May.

Gordon Quintus and Larry Costello were re-elected as president and vice-president of the Ventura School Board.  Daird Korth was newly elected to the board.

The undefeated Lions opened North Central Conference play by roaring past the Algona Bulldogs, 35-15.  Coach Fred Wieck praised his offensive line of Eric Meyer, Marty Fredericks, Greg Johnson, Scott Johnson, Shawn O’Hare and Mark Ades for doing a great job of moving the ball straight up the field.  Paul Ebeling carried the ball nine times for 36-yards.  He also ran for one touchdown and passed for 22-yards.

Quarterback Tim Bray directed Ventura to a 33-6 victory over Colo/NESCO in the first-ever high school football game in Jack Trice Cyclone Stadium in Ames on Saturday.  Bray was 7/10 passing for 53-yards.  He rushed for 25-yards.

Joel Jacobson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Jacobson, of Clear Lake, is playing football at Northwestern College.
