Lions fall in hard-fought victory
St. Edmond’s left Clear Lake with a volleyball win Thursday night, but it wasn’t easy. The Lions (5-11, 0-2) battled throughout four games, but dropped a 3-1 decision.
The North Central Conference match opened with a close game one. The Gaels pulled out a 25-20 win to start the match. The opening game gave the Lions the confidence they needed to take game two, 25-14.
Games three and four went to the Gaels, 25-19, 25-18.
“It was a rough night for us. We had far too many mental mistakes throughout the match, and dug our selves into a pretty steep hole,” said Coach Keith Sears. “There were a lot of great steps forward as individuals throughout the course of the match.”
Statistical leaders included Kiersten Baalson, going 20/27 from the service line with four aces. Marne Euken topped the team with four kills. Carson Frahm set up the Lion offense with seven assists.
On defense, Chloe Mueller had 17 digs and Kayla Ritter made two blocks.
