Sharon Kay Shinn, 73, of Mason City, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, in Mason City.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, in Clear Lake, with Pastor Dennis Ganz officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Sharon was born March 29, 1942, the daughter of Robert and Arlene (Rafferty) Kaster, in Mason City. She was united in marriage to Larry McIlrath on June 23, 1962, in Mason City. To this union four children were born, Jeffery, Joseph, Tracy and Dawn. She later married Jim Shinn on Sept. 30, 2006, in Ventura.
Sharon grew up and attended school in Ventura. When she was younger she worked as a waitress and at Mode-A-Day. She was very proud to have been a caretaker at Good Shepherd and a real estate agent in North Iowa.
Sharon loved the outdoors, trapping, fishing and boating. As a young girl she and her father spent a lot of time trapping and fishing, which she then passed on to her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed taking her grandchildren to the nature center.
Sharon is survived by a son, Jeffery Scott (Marie) McIlrath, of Decorah, Iowa and grandson, Josh McIlrath, of California; a son, Joseph Dean (Christine) McIlrath, of Mason City and grandchildren, Tayler, Morgan and Erin Lacy, of Mason City; a daughter, Tracy Ann (Roger) Hennigar, of Hanlontown, Iowa and grandchildren, Danielle (Dan) Dirksen, of Plymouth and great-grandchildren, Dawson, Delayne and Daphne, Justin (Samantha) Hennigar, of Clear Lake, and Samantha (Dylan) Hennigar, of Mason City; and great-grandchildren, Ronnie, Kastiel and Damien Alitz; and Daniel Hennigar, of Hanlontown; a daughter, Dawn Marie (Bruce) Wasenius, of Plymouth and grandchildren, Julian (Ashley) Wasenius, of Mason City and Anthony Wasenius, of Plymouth; and siblings, Robert Kaster, of Forest City, Deanna Bonner, of Clear Lake and Penny Kaster, of Clear Lake.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; and siblings, Randy and Jody Kaster.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
