Clarence E. Clark

Clarence Eugene Clark, 91, of Mason City, Iowa, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016, at Heritage Care and Rehabilitation Center, in Mason City.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dr. Jacqueline Thompson officiating.  Interment was at Hillside Cemetery, in Sheffield.

Clarence was born March 22, 1924, the son of Ira B. and Rose E. (Freudenberg) Clark, in Sheffield.  After completing eighth grade, he began farming with his father and brother, raising cattle and pigs along with their crops.  He also played the drums in the Clark Family Band, which consisted of his father, mother, brother and a friend.  Following his father’s death, he began taking care of his mother, and they moved to Mason City in 1973.

Clarence was baptized and confirmed in the First Methodist Church of Sheffield, in 1948 and remained a member there.  He was also a member of the Moose Lodge, Musicians Union and served as a representative to the N.I.A.D. Labor Council.

Clarence is survived by a brother, Ellsworth (Karen) Clark; two nephews, James Clarence Clark, of Nashville, Tenn. and Clifford E. (Gaye) Pedersen, of Cresco, Iowa; and several great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Inez (Johnny) Pedersen; an infant brother, Ashton; and a nephew, Jason Keith Clark.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
