GHV boys track team competes in two meets

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys track team hit the season running, with two meets last week.

Umstead Relays

A short roster for the GHV boys track team led to an eighth place finish in a nine-team field in the Class A Umstead Relays held Tuesday, April 5.  Algona won the meet with 119 points.  The Cardinals ended with 30 points.

“We were without our long distance runners Tuesday night, so it was hard to collect the points,” said Coach Kelsey Steffens.  “Although the weather hasn’t been great, the boys have been competing well and I’m impressed with the season so far.”

All of GHV’s points were earned by two runners.  Johnathan O’Connor won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:10.20.  The rest of the points were earned by Sam Cataldo, who won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.39 and the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 59.63.
