Girls tennis team falls to Osage

Clear Lake won two of three doubles matches, but fell 6-3 to Osage in girls tennis action Tuesday, April 12.

Clear Lake’s only singles victory was provided by Chloe Mueller, who held on to defeat Hailey Gentz in a close match, 11-9.

Gretchen Jones, who was down 2-7, made adjustments and fought back to 6-7, but eventually gave in to Osage’s Kaire Chisholm at the number one spot.

Maddy Brant and Ali Witt also faced some evenly matched opponents, Sarah Jenkins and Beth Valasek.  Jenkins and Valasek narrowly won 10-8 and 11-9 to put Osage in the lead 5-1 after singles play.

Clear Lake came back though with some strong doubles play.

feated their opponents, Brandy Nauman and Hailey Gentz, in a competitive match, 10-7.

The team of Brant and Witt did not get to finish their match due to a Lions injury.

“We had some very competitive individual matches in both singles and doubles play.  We’ll continue to work on mental preparation and ball placement for our next match,” said Coach Mary Jo Peterson.

In Junior varsity action, doubles wins were provided by the teams of Jassmine Rucker/Mikayla Brant, Lainey Arians/Alexa Julsen, Kristi Peterson/Jenna Nelson, Bailey Goldberg/Irene Swanson, and Kourtney Mundt/ Maranda Harrison.  Winners in JV singles were Alexa Julsen, Lainey Arians, Jassmine Rucker and Philomena Schnoebelen.
