Solid defense aids CL girls soccer team in win
The Clear Lake girls got on the scoreboard first and played solid defense to earn their first win of the season Tuesday, April 12, at Humboldt, 3-1.
After a scoreless first half, Milo Dugan put the Lions on the board with a goal at the 30-minute mark of the second half. Dugan netted the ball off an Erin O’Tool pass.
Humboldt knotted the score shortly after Dugan’s feat, but the defensive backfield of Bailey Maulsby, Jessica Faber, Lexie Holtz and Taylor Hill, along with goal keeper Ellie Biebesheimer, shut the Wildcats down the remainder of the match.
Biebsheimer ended the game with four saves.
Dugan made seven attempts in the match, while Mandy Wendell had two. O’Tool made six attempts and finished with one assist.
O’Tool scored two more goals for the Lions to make the final score 3-1.
“I’m proud of how the team continued to battle and take the game to them,” said Coach Steve Faber.
