Clear Lake boys place fourth at NCC Meet

The Clear Lake boys track team used a pair of meets Monday and Tuesday to tune up for the North Central Conference meet on Thursday.

NCC Meet

Clear Lake was the champ in four events, helping the Lions place fourth at the conference meet run Thursday, May 5, at Webster City.  Humboldt won the NCC title with 161.5 points.  Algona was second with 161.  Iowa Falls-Alden was third with 102 points and Clear Lake had 89.

Parker Crispin, a junior, won the 110 meter hurdles in 16.06 and was a member of the winning shuttle hurdle team.  Crispin, along with Parker Truesdell, Zach Lester and Chase Bacon, broke the tape in 1:00.93.

The Lions also had two other winning relays.  The Distance Medley team of Zach Tatum, Cooper Merrill, Speed Toyne and Lester won in 3:48.24.  The 4x200 relay with Tatum, Merrill, Truesdell and Bacon won in a time of 1:31.37.  The same foursome was second in the 4x100 in a time of 44.13.

Bacon also added a runner-up finish in the 200 meters to his day, running a 23.14.  Karter Anderson was third in the 800 meters in a time of 2:10.33.

Junior varsity

Dylon Crotty won the 400 meters and Konner Mills notched a pair of individual placements in the junioor varsity competition at the NCC Meet.  Crotty ran a 58.77 to earn the blue ribbon in he 400.  Mills was second in the 100 in 12.53 and Crotty was fourth in the race in 12.91.  Mills also placed fourth in the 200 in 25.45.  Teammate Luke Eggers was fifth in 25.48.

4x100: Mills, Eggers, Vohs, and Dalton Grell, third, 49.51

Don Hoppel Relays

The Clear Lake boys set two meet records on their way to a runner-up finish at the Don Hoppel Relays at Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Monday, May 2.  Forest City won the meet with 151 points.  The Lions were the only other team to top 100, finishing with 116.  Northwood-Kensett was third with 91 points and GHV was fourth with 63.

The Lions’ shuttle hurdle relay team with Parker Truesdell, Zach Lester, Parker Crispin and Chase Bacon set a new meet record by winning in 1:00.47.  A record was also set in the 4x200 with Zach Tatum, Cooper Merrill, Truesdell and Bacon running a 1:32.50.  The same relay members won the 4x100 in 44.47.

Clear Lake’s Distance Medley team was also a winner.  Tatum, Merrill, Speed Toyne and Lester were clocked in 3:45.56.

Individually, Bacon was the winner in the 200 in 22.84, with David Vohs placing fifth in 24.15.  Crispin finished second in the 100 hurdles in 15.75 and fifth in the 400 hurdles in 1:02.56.  Karter Anderson broke the tape in the 800 in 2:08.88.

Distance runner Grant Dieken was second in the 1600 in 5:09.64 and fifth in the 3200 in 11:18.10.   In the 400 dash Toyne placed third in 53.58 and Nick Eggers was fifth in 54.54.  The Lions also had two placements in the 100, as Merrill was second in 11:48 and Tatum was fifth in 11.91.

In field events, Lester tied for second in the high jump by getting over 5’6”.  Luke Eggers was fifth in the long jump by jumping 17’7.5”.

Also earning points was the 4x400 and 4x800 relays.  Each team was fourth.  The 4x400 included Nick Eggers, Truesdell, Toyne and Anderson.  The 4x800 had Anderson, Lucas Kirchhoff, Thorson Olinger and Nick Currier.

Hackbarth Relays

The Lions finished third at the Hackbarth Relays held May 3 in Algona.  The host team won the meet with 183 points, followed by Bishop Garrigan with 91 and the Lions with 84 points.

The Lions got a win in the 400  from Speed Toyne, who ran the race in 53.99.  Parker Crispin was a winner in the 110 hurdles in 15.72.  The shuttle hurdle team was also a winner in 1:01.11.  Cooper Merrill was runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 19’8.25”.
