A win and a loss for GHV girls soccer team
The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls soccer team split a pair of games last week.
Webster City 3, GHV 0
The Cardinals knew going into Tuesday night’s matchup against Webster City that it was going to be a battle.
“Webster City has improved over the last couple of weeks and they are playing really well,” said Coach Josh Banse.
The Lynx opened the game by scoring two quick goals to take an early lead. The Cardinals were never able to recover and fell, 3-0.
“We did play a great second half, but it was too late and we just couldn’t get the ball in the goal,” said Banse.
Hannah Lau and Payton Bamrick each had one shot on goal.
Goalie Morgan Westendorf had 10 saves in the match.
GHV 3, Humboldt 0
The Cardinals recorded a shut-out against Humboldt on Thursday, May 19. With all cylinders clicking, GHV won the match, 3-0.
“We played really well in this game,” said Coach Josh Banse. “Our defense played up to their capabilities and our offense kept doing what we have been doing. The difference was we put the ball in the goal a couple of times.”
Payton Bamrick, Autumn Weaver and Payton Echelberger each scored a goal. Jacki Van Oort assisted on Bamrick’s goal.
Bamrick and Weaver each had four shots on goal, while Echelberger had three and Van Oort and Hannah Sokol had two apiece. Lau had one shot on goal.
Coach Banse praised the play of his defensive players Carlie Knutson, Brooklyn Laird, Abby Kale, Rachel Sokol, Sydney Childress and Emily Howke.
