Lions drop final regular season games

The Clear Lake girls soccer team will be looking to turn things around when they begin post-season play next week. The Lions dropped their final two regular season games played last week. The Lions are slated to begin Class 1A post-season play Tuesday, May 31. They will travel to Garner for a 6 p.m. match with Garner-Hayfield-Ventura. The winner will advance to play Friday, June 3, at Hudson.
IF-A 4, CL 2
On Friday, May 20, the Lions hosted Iowa Falls. After falling behind 3-0 at the half, they rallied but fell short and lost, 4-2.
“We came out strong in the second half. It just wasn’t enough to over come the first,” said Coach Steve Faber. “With this being Senior Night, I want to acknowledge our manager Kirstin Monson, Madi Wendel, Bailey Maulsby, Ellie Biebesheimer and Erin O’Tool. They have provided great leadership and will be missed.”
O’Tool had two shots on goal and scored one goal in the match. Milo Dugan and Jessica Faber had the Lions’ other scores.
Freshman Katelyn Moore was credited with an assist in the match. Sophomore Taylor Hill also took a shot.
Goal keeper Ellie Biebesheimer had 15 saves against the Cadets.
The Clear Lake junior varsity team beat Iowa Falls, 2-1. Biebesheimer came out from the net to lead her team with two goals. Jenna Wilkinson had an assist along with one shot on goal. Ana Starbeck had one save and Dugan took four shots on goal.
A-P 2, CL 1
The Clear Lake girls soccer team lost a close battle with Aplington-Parkersburg Monday, May 16, by a score of 2-1.
Erin O’Tool was credited with an assist to Milo Dugan, who scored the Lions’ lone goal.
Coach Steve Faber noted Bailey Maulsby, Jessica Faber, Taylor Hill, Lexi Holtz and Rissa Barragy did a nice job, especially in the second half, defending their goal.
“Jenna Wilkinson passed well and stood her ground. Krystal Lu and Katelyn Moore continue to give us quality time on both sides of the field,” he added.
Goalie Ellie Biebesheimer, who has been strong in the net for the Lions all season, recorded another 13 saves.
