The Clear Lake girls golf team has qualified for a berth at the State Golf Meet May 31-June 1 at Goldwater Links in Ames.
The Lions appear to be peaking at the right time. After winning at the first round of Class 3A Regionals on May 16, the team captured the Region 4 final title on Monday, May 23, at Parkersburg. The Lions were the clear winner, shooting a 368. North Fayette Valley also advanced with 380. Emily Snelling, from Clear Lake, was medalist with a 74. Bailee Frayne, from Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, was runner-up with an 82.
Clear Lake’s Ashley DeLong fired an 85, good for third in the individual standings. The Lions’ other counting scores were provided by Jordyn Barragy (102) and Erin Carew (107).
“Its been one heck of a season!” said an elated Coach Adam Brinkmann after Monday’s action. “The girls have been working so hard this season and it is finally paying off. We have been working extremely hard on the little things and it is good to see those aspects getting better.”
The coach noted players battled the wind, which made their scores even more impressive.
“These girls work their tails off and I couldn’t be more proud of these girls. They reached their

goal of getting to the state tournament, and now we are hoping to make a little noise at the state tournament. Jordyn and Mattie both struggled some at the first round regional and so it was good to see them both come back with much better scores today.”
Osage and Monticello rounded out the team play with scores of 399 and 400 respectively.
Bailey Moser, from North Fayette Valley, Courtney Tusler, from Osage, and Lauren Ries, from Monticello, rounded out the top six individuals. Each carded an 88.
