Carolyn R. Albers

Carolyn Rosella Albers, 89, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, in Mason City, Iowa

A memorial service was held on Monday, June 6, 2016, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St. Clear Lake, with Pastor Paul Evans officiating.  Inurnment was in Ell Township Cemetery, in Klemme, Iowa.

  Family suggests memorial contributions to the Humane Society of North Iowa or to Hospice of North Iowa.

Carolyn was born March 16, 1927, the daughter of Clarence and Helen (Shake) Holmes in Mason City.  She married John Lubbe Albers in May 1947, at the Little Brown Church, in Nashua, Iowa.  They shared nearly 44 years of marriage together before his passing in 1991.

Carolyn grew up in Ventura and graduated from Ventura High School in 1945.  She was the Activity Director at the Senior Citizens Center in Clear Lake for most of her life, as well as being a mother and homemaker.  She also was a bookkeeper for Halverson’s Welding.

Carolyn was a member of the Ventura United Methodist Church, their church circle and TOPS in Clear Lake.  She enjoyed dancing, bird watching and playing cards; particularly 500, Hand and Foot and Dominos.  She was also an avid reader and wrote many children’s novels.  She loved spending time with her family; especially the grandchildren.

Carolyn is survived by two children, Steven (Helena) Albers, of Thornton, Iowa, and Suzanne (Dean) Hess, of Clear Lake; eight grandchildren, Melanie (Scott), Zak (Britney), Lindsey (Drake), Morgan, Madeline, Jack, Theresa (Dustin), and Autumn (Joe); a great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a sister, Norma Albers-Fatland; a brother, DuWayne Holmes and a brother in infancy, Clarence Holmes.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
