Rain Garden rehab

(Above) A rain garden designed to help protect the water quality of Clear Lake got some much needed attention last week, as new CLEAR Project Coordinator Jim Sholly mobilized volunteers for action.  The group started removing uninvited weeds in the rain garden near City beach and the Clear Lake Yacht Club in an effort to improve the aesthetics of the site.

“This rain garden was installed to protect the water quality of Clear Lake, but has not seen much love in recent years,” explained Sholly.  He hopes to start a more regular maintenance campaign for this, and other public owned water quality projects around town.  “The goal is to promote more wild flowers that will provide changing colors all throughout the growing season. Clear Lake is a treasure for North Iowa and promoting improved water quality is what the CLEAR Project is all about,” added Sholly.
