William J. Burns

William Joseph Burns, 61, of Fort Worth, Texas, formerly of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at his home.

A funeral service was held on Friday, July 8, 2016, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dr. Pat Hall officiating.  Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, in Mason City.

Family suggests memorial contributions to the William Burns Memorial Fund.

Bill was born March 22, 1955, the son of Roy and Helen (Clark) Burns, in Mason City.  He was united in marriage to Cindy Barkhurst on April 7, 1979, and to this union three children were born.  He later married Becky Meyer on April 4, 2003, in Las Vegas, Nev.  She preceded him in death on Aug. 26, 2008.

Bill graduated from Mason City High School in 1973.  He worked for Iowa Mold Tooling Company in Garner as a salesman for most of his life.

Bill was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.  He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, traveling, and watching the Dallas Cowboys.  He also liked meeting new people and cooking.

Bill is survived by three children, Adam Burns, of Fort Worth, Texas, Cory Burns, of Fort Worth, Texas and Kristy Burns, of West Des Moines; two grandchildren, Kayla and Riley Burns; and two stepchildren, Cody Wiemann, of Des Moines and Haley Wiemann, of Mason City.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Becky; a brother, Bob; and a sister, Dee Dee.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
