Fourth of July celebration was a record-breaker

Clear Lake’s six-day July 4th celebration was a record-breaking event, according to Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tim Coffey.

“It was one of the best— the (Evans United Shows) carnival had its best stay in 43 years.  I was told the parade crowds were the largest, fireworks were the best.  It was a very successful year,” Coffey told the City Council Monday night.  He estimated crowds at 70,000 plus.

Coffey said as planning begins for the 2017 celebration, the Chamber will look at its decision to allow semi trucks in the parade.  In light of recent world events, Coffey said the committee is vigilant in keeping safety a priority.
