Three Cards named to TIC West teams

Three Garner-Hayfield-Ventura softball players earned spots on the 2016 Top of Iowa West All-Conference.

Payton Bamrick and Mackenzie Van Gerpen were named to the Second Team.  Bamrick as an infielder and Van Gerpen as a utility player.  Bamrick, a senior, finished the season with a .446 batting average.  She had 19 RBIs for the season and knocked seven doubles, two triples and one home run.  Van Gerpen, a junior, had a .414 average.  She hit 12 doubles and two home runs and brought in 19 runs.

Miranda Jackson, a senior, was named to the Honorable Mention list.  She ended the season with a batting average of .316.  She had 14 RBIs and hit five doubles and three triples.

“It is always nice when seniors can cap off their playing careers with some post-season honors,” said Coach Matt Graham.  “Payton and Miranda were great mentors to our younger girls.”

Bamrick was also named to the the Class 3A Central All District team

The Cardinals ended the season with an overall record of 5-25.

“The girls gave a great effort every night, so the coaching staff was pleased with that.  We return a solid nucleus of players for next year, so our team should be much improved.”
