Family escapes injury in early morning house fire

A Clear Lake family safely evacuated their burning home early Saturday morning.

The Clear Lake Fire Department was dispatched to 1310 Buddy Holly Place for a reported house fire Saturday, Aug. 6, at approximately 1:09 a.m. The CLFD responded with three engine companies, one ambulance and 16 firefighters.

Upon arrival, the CLPD confirmed there was moderate to heavy smoke in the basement of the home and all residents had safely evacuated.  Firefighters made entry with the first attack crew trying to locate and extinguish the fire.

The second attack crew pulled a line around to the backside of the structure and extinguished fire that had extended to the rear deck.  The interior crew overhauled and vented the house.

Damage was estimated at over $30,000.  The home owners, Jeff and Jeannie Jurgens, confirmed that the house is insured.

The CLFD was on scene for approximately two hours. The CLFD was assisted at the scene by the Ventura Fire Department, Clear Lake Police Department and Alliant Energy.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
