Cards fold to #5 ranked Lake Mills Bulldogs
The Cards faced a tough opponent when they traveled to Lake Mills on Tuesday, Sept. 13, to take on the undefeated and #5 ranked Bulldogs.
GHV grabbed an early 4-1 lead in the first set, before Lake Mills found their momentum. After tying it up 8-8, the Bulldogs rolled to an easy 25-11 victory. The Bulldogs dominated the next two games, 25-10 and 25-12, on their way to the victory.
“On a positive note, we got some good touches on blocks and were able to clean up our defense,” said Coach Kelsey Steffens. “One area we need to fine tune is our serving as that is taking us out of many opportunities throughout recent matches.”
Mackenzie Van Gerpen had a strong match for the Cards, leading the team in several categories. She recorded four kills, had one block and dug up nine digs.
Other leaders at the net included Carlie Knutson and Hannah Lau with three kills apiece. Lau also had two blocked shots and Knutson recorded one.
Knutson, Lau and Jackie Van Oort were strong on defense, with seven digs apiece. Fede Monteleone and Taylor Gerdes had four and three digs respectively.
Van Oort and Lydia Seelhammer had one ace serve apiece.
