Undefeated Wildcats sweep CL volleyball team
Humboldt kept its perfect record intact Thursday night, as the 21-0 Wildcats defeated the Clear Lake Lions 3-0. The Wildcats sit atop the North Central Conference standings with a 3-0 record. The Lions are now 1-3.
Clear Lake gave Humboldt, eighth ranked in Class 3A, a solid test. The Wildcats captured the first game, 25-18, and the second, 25-15. The Lions fought valiantly to keep the match going, but fell 25-20 in the third.
“I was extremely proud of the way the girls continued to fight throughout the entire match,” said Coach Jill Smith. “Defensively, I thought we did an excellent job of defending some strong hitters and offensively stayed aggressive. We continue to improve with each match.”
Kiersten Baalson, Kayla Ritter and Emily Snelling each recorded solo blocks for the Lions against the stout Wildcat offense. Snelling also led the team with 14 digs. Chloe Mueller was next with 12.
Carson Frahm set up Snelling and company with 17 assists. Snelling put down six kills, while Jessica Faber had four and Ritter and Emilie Jandebeuer each had three.
The Lions served with 85 percent efficiency, paced by Mueller’s 8/8 performance. Balloon was 11/12 at the line and Faber was 9/11. Frahm put in six of seven serves, Ritter was 5/7 and Snelling was good on eight of 10 attempts.s
