Dixie Matson

Dixie Matson, 70, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016 at her home.

A time of celebrating and sharing of Dixie’s memories was held on Thursday, Sept. 29, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.  A private graveside service will be held at a later time in the Clear Lake Cemetery.  Family suggests memorials to Mercy Medical Center North Iowa Cancer Center.

Dixie was born Dec. 31, 1945 in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Katherine (Miller) Freie.  She moved with her family in her early teens to Clear Lake, as her family purchased and operated North Shore Court.

She graduated from Clear Lake High School and then attended and graduated from Cosmetology School in Mason City.

She married Arvid Matson on June 19, 1964 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.  They farmed north of Clear Lake.

She enjoyed fishing, riding in her ’56 Ford Thunderbird, flower gardening, going to flea markets, garage sales and antiquing, where she obtained her many treasures.  She loved nature and especially feeding the deer and birds.  She enjoyed going to the casino, but especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.  She always tried to make everyone happy, with her radiant smile

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Arvid Matson, Clear Lake; two daughters, Tammy (Dean) Richardson, Henderson, Nev. and Rebecca (Joel) Weidner, Clear Lake; six grandchildren, Ashley Wageman, Lucas Wageman, Isaiah Gray, Elijah Gray, Sarah Gray, and Thomas Gray; brother-in-law, Jon (Linda) Matson, Clear Lake; three nieces; seven great-nieces and nephews; her aunt, Pat Miller, Boone, Iowa and her special cat, Patches.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel,was in charge of arrangements.
