Forfeits help GHV wrestlers pick up three wins in recent action

It was a good week for the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura wrestling team, as they picked up three wins.
GHV 49, Forest City 24
On Tuesday, Dec. 13, the Cardinals faced Forest City. Forfeits were the difference in the match, as Forest City had five forfeits.
Conner Shaw opened the meet at 182 pounds. He pinned Jacob Trunkhill in :25. Gabe Staudt, of Forest City pinned GHV’s Buck Weaver at 195 pounds in 1:59. Grady Umbarger was pinned in 1:55 by Noah Paulson at 220 pounds. The Indians led the team score, 12-6.
The Cardinals picked up forfeits at 285, 106, 113 and 120 for a 30-12 team score.
At 126, GHV’s Caleb Renner topped Brett Walton by a major decision, 10-2. The Cards received two more forfeits at 132 and 138.
Forest City picked up two wins at 145 and 154. Kristian Gunderson beat Brady Hess at 145 and Spencer Formanek was pinned in 1:23 at 152 pounts.
GHV’s Anthony Sherwood won by an 8-4 decision at 160 pounds. Forest City won at 170 when Zach Abbas lost by a 9-7 decision to Timothy Buck.

GHV 45, Forest City 34
The Cardinals competed in a triangular on Thursday, Dec. 15.
GHV topped Belmond-Klemme 48-34. The Broncos forfeited six matches, while GHV forfeited one.
Winning for the Cardinals was Anthony Sherwood at 160 pounds. Sherwood pinned his opponent in :51. At 182 pounds, Conner Shaw pinned Tucker Kroeze in 1:11.
The Cards again beat Forest City by forfeits, 45-34. The Indians had to forfeit six matches, compared to GHV’s one.
The Cards had two wrestlers win their matches. Brady Hess beat Kristian Gunderson by a 4-1 decision at 145 pounds. Conner Shaw pinned Jacob Sherwood in 4:57 at 182 pounds.
