Court date set for woman accused of stealing $50K from CL business

A Mason City woman accused of stealing more than $50,000 while employed at Lake Chevrolet in Clear Lake, has entered a not guilty plea in Cerro Gordo County District Court.

Amy Monahan, 43, will go to trial March 7, on charges of ongoing criminal conduct, first degree theft and forgery.

The charges were the result of a seven month investigation into reports of misconduct while Monahan was employed by Lake Chevrolet from 2013 to 2016.  She allegedly misappropriated more than $50,000 during a two-year period of employment, according to the CLPD.

Monahan is alleged to have taken money, received extra employment benefits, used business funds to pay personal credit cards and forged checks, according to investigators.

A warrant was issued for Monahan’s arrest Oct. 28, 2016 and she turned herself in to authorities the same day.  She was taken into custody at the Cerro Gordo County Jail.  She was released after posting bond.
