GHV crowns two champions at Lake Mills Tournament

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura wrestling team picked up a win and two losses at the North Butler meet held on Thursday, Jan. 12.

North Butler 49, GHV 21

The Cardinals had three wrestlers win their matches against North Butler and they had one forfeit.

Jace Pringnitz won at 132 pounds.  He pinned Brett Marshal in 1:06.

Conner Shaw pinned JC Ulrich in :54 at 170 pounds.

Brady Hess, 145 pounds, won by a 5-3 decision over Beau Thompson.

Grady Umbarger received a forfeit.

GHV 51, Northwood-Kennett 24

Five wrestlers won their matches when the Cards faced Northwood-Kensett.  Four wrestlers received forfeits.

Winning for GHV was Zach Eichmann, Jace Pringnitz, Anthony Sherwood, Grady Umbarger and Tyler Nielsen.  Colyn Schoneman, Conner Shaw, Austin Case and Brady Hess received byes.  There was a double forfeit at 106 pounds and GHV forfeited at 195 pounds.

Eichmann pinned Gage Hengesteg in 2:26 at 120 pounds.  Pringnitz, 132 pounds, won by a 16-0 technical fall over Jeff Yezek.  Anthony Sherwood won by a 16-6 major decision against Logan Benjegerdes at 152 pounds.  Grady Umbarger pinned Marcus Brandt at 220 pounds in 1:20.  Tyler Nielsen, 285 pounds, pinned Ethan Thofson in :50.

Osage 48, GHV 30

GHV’s top ranked wrestler, Conner Shaw, ran into a buzz saw against Osage.  Shaw lost a close 6-4 decision to Brock Jennings.  This was Shaw’s first loss of the season.

The Cardinals picked up four wins against the perennially strong Green Devils.  Austin Case stuck Joe Jacob in 1:56 at 113 pounds.  Caleb Renner pinned Nolan Byrnes in 3:50 at 126 pounds.  Jace Pringnitz, 132 pounds, won by fall against Brody Roll in 3:45.  At 145 pounds, Brady Hess pinned Mason O’Malley in 3:42.

Tyler Nielsen received a bye at 285 pounds.  GHV forfeited at 195 pounds and 106 pounds.

Lake Mills Tournament

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura wrestling team competed at the Lake Mills tournament on Saturday, Jan. 14.  The Cardinals fell to Lake Mills, 62-12, and to North Butler, 54-21.  The Cardinals picked up a 42-24 win over North Union.

GHV’s Jace Pringnitz, at 132 pounds, and Conner Shaw, at 170 pounds, both went 4-0 on the day and brought home championships.  A highlight of the day was Shaw recording his 150th career victory at GHV.  Shaw is ranked second in Class 2A.

GHV 42, North Union 24

GHV dominated North Union, with six wrestlers recording pins.

Brady Hess pinned Nate Joyce at 145-pounds in 1:01.

At 152-pounds, Anthony Sherwood recorded a fall in 3:43 against Brady Anderson.

Colyn Schoneman pinned Adam Brandt in :59 at 160-pounds.

Conner Shaw picked up a fall at 170 pounds when he pinned Andrew Schiltz in :56.

At 192-pounds, Grady Umbarger pinned Angel Martinez in :55.

GHV gave up forfeits at 126, 182 and 285 pounds.  The Cards received forfeits at 113 and 132 pounds.

North Butler 54, GHV 21

The Cardinals picked up three wins against North Butler.

Jace Pringnitz pinned Teryn Joebgen in 1:00 at 132 pounds.

At 145 pounds, Brady Hess picked up a 3-0 decision over Beau Thompson.

Conner Shaw recorded a fall at 170-pounds against JC Ulrich in 3:14.

GHV’s other points came from a forfeit at 195-pounds for Grady Umbarger.  GHV gave up forfeits at  106, 120, 126, 182 and 285.

Lake Mills 62, GHV 12

The Cardinals forfeited six matches against Lake Mills and picked up three wins.  GHV forfeited at 106, 120, 126, 182, 220 and 285.

Jace Pringnitz picked up a win at 132 pounds.  He wrestled his way to a 12-6 decision over Ashten Love.

Colyn Schoneman pinned Alex Albert in 1:22 at 160 pounds.

Conner Shaw recorded an 8-4 decision over Cole Bergo at 170 pounds.
