Patricia Ann Oswald
Patricia Ann Oswald, 80, of Fertile, Iowa passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2016 at Good Shepherd Health Center, Mason City, Iowa.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 2017, at the Fertile Lutheran Church in Fertile, with Pastor Dave Halverson officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery in Plymouth.
Visitation was held Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake.
The family suggests memorials be directed to Hospice of North Iowa, Hanlontown Fire and Rescue, Fertile Fire and Rescue, and the Fertile Lutheran Church.
Patricia Ann Legge was born on Sept. 8, 1936 in Clarion to George O. and Edna Mae (Mason) Legge. She graduated from Garner High School in 1955. Patricia married Andrew “Andy” Oswald on Feb. 3, 1957 at Klemme Methodist Church. In 1955 Patricia began working for Farm Bureau as a secretary, serving the Cerro Gordo and Worth County communities until 1990. She also clerked at Pronto MKT for seven years.
Patricia was a member of Fertile Lutheran Church, and served as the Parish Secretary for 12 years before retiring in December 2006. She belonged to the Fertile Garden Club and served all offices. Patricia founded the Library Friend group at the Fertile Library and served as Chairman for ten years. She was the very first woman to be on the Worth County Fair Board and served on the board for sixteen years as the secretary. She then continued working in the floral hall and fair office during the Worth County Fair. Patricia served on the Worth County Extension and 4-H Council, Cerro Gordo County 4-H Foods Group, PTA for Roosevelt Elementary serving as Chairman for a year, making an impact on each community. She was also a member of the Pleasant Ridge Club in Mason City.
Patricia is survived by her children, Annette (Rolly) O’Donnell, Joice, and Randall (Patti) Oswald, Joice; grandchildren, Josi (Seth) Thompson, Forest City, Cody Askvig, Mason City, and Ashley O’Donnell, Joice; five great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Sarah Innes, Fertile.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a grandson, Mason Oswald; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Sue Legge; and a brother-in-law, John Innes.
