Case and Shaw advance for GHV Cardinals

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura wrestling team competed in the 2A Sectional wrestling tournament at Algona on Saturday, Feb. 4.  The Cardinals crowned one champion in Conner Shaw at 170 pounds.  Austin Case was runner-up at 113 pounds. They will advance to Districts Saturday at Webster City.

Shaw (41-3) received a bye in the opening round.  In the semifinal match, he pinned Clear Lake’s Chance Poley in 1:48.  In the champion ship match he faced Sam Wigans of Clarion-Goldfield-Dows.  Shaw claimed the top honor in short  order with a pin in :40.

Case (36-12) had a tougher time on the way to his runner-up finish.  He received a bye in the opening round.  In the semifinal match, he pinned Will Kirschbaum, of Forest City, in :32.  In the first place match, he met Clear Lake’s Eric Faught.  Faught won by fall in :30.  Case wrestled Kirschbaum again and won by rule, 11-10, for second place.
