Rita G. Joynt
Rita G. Joynt, 95, of Mason City, Iowa, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, at Hospice of North Iowa, Inpatient unit.
A Mass of Christian Burial service was held on Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, at Epiphany Parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City. Officiating was Fathers Andy A-Mensah and Ed Girres. Interment was in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake.

Rita was born in Mallard, Iowa, the daughter of Cornelius and Anna (Schumacher) Girres. She graduated from Mallard High School. Rita was united in marriage to Eugene “Gene” C. Joynt on July 18, 1942 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, in San Diego, Calif. Gene was in the military and served in the Navy during WWII. Following the war, they moved to Clear Lake to farm, and then later to Mason City. Gene and Rita enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, and spending time with family. Rita was a faithful, lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Surviving Rita are her children, Gloria (Jim Kamish), of West St. Paul, Minn.; James (Susan), of Clear Lake and Nancy (Keith) Bauer, of Clear Lake; Kathy (Rick) Morel, of Mason City; 13 grandchildren, James (Teri) Woog, David (Carriann) Woog, Joy Garvey, Daniel (Rianne) Woog, Michael (Ranae) Joynt, Marci Joynt, Mindy (Scott) Giziewski, Paul Bauer, Jason (Catherine) Bauer, Lisa (Josh) Lockwood, Kara Morel (Blake Petersen), Rachel (James) Duff; and Bridget Morel; and 27 great-grandchildren, Mikenzie, Caelan, Delaney, Jake, Zak, Anniston, Caden, Hope, RJ, Emilee, Nicholas, Josey, Tyler, Kenzie, Trevor, Carly, Christopher, Chelsea, Louis, Mia, Ava, Max, Ivy, Jayson, Anthony, Kora, and James.
She was preceded in death by her son, Roger, in 1978; and her husband of 66 years, Gene, in 2008. Also preceding her in death are her parents, three sisters, Marcella Clark, Eleanor Girres and Oliva Kliegl; and six brothers, Arnold, Joseph, Cornelius “Dick”, Cletus “Shorty”, Leo and Bernard.
