CL girls fall in Regional soccer action

Iowa Falls-Alden knocked out Clear Lake, 3-0, in the opening round of Regional play Tuesday, May 30.

“What a game!  What a season!” said Clear Lake Coach Steve Faber.  “Tonight we battled hard but fell short.  This game was indicative of our season, with many games coming down to the wire.  Fighting hard to the final whistle, we couldn’t ask for more from our kids.”

The coach praised the play of his defensive half backs, Jessica Faber, Taylor Hill, Rissa Barragy, Lexie Holtz and Taylor Krull. The group managed to keep the Cadets in check.

All of the Cadets’ goals originated from corner kicks.

“With the dying wind at our backs in the second half, we were able to string together a few good opportunities but were unable to finish,” said Faber.

Sara Faber took one shot on goal in the game for the Lions.

Goal keeper Kayla Ritter made 20 saves.

“As coaches we could not be more proud of the effort and determination these girls displayed out on the field,” said Coach Faber.  “Though we will lose our senior captain, Jessica Faber, the future looks very interesting.”
