Leona E. Taylor

Leona E. Taylor, 72, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, in Mason City, Iowa, after a brief diagnosis of Ovarian Cancer.

Per Leona’s wishes, her body has been cremated.  Visitation was held on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with Pastor Mark Doebel leading a time of sharing. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa, at a later date.

Memorials may be given to the Clear Lake Library in her memory.

Leona was born Aug. 10, 1945, in Hampton, Iowa, the daughter of Rudolf and Florence (Meyer) Meyer.  She graduated from Sheffield-Chapin High School in 1963. Leona married Lester Taylor Aug. 4, 1963, in Hampton, Iowa, and moved to Pacific Beach, Calif. where Lester was in the U.S. Navy.  They had one son, John, born July 19, 1964 and one daughter, Wendy, born Feb. 8, 1967.   

Leona worked in both restaurants and motels over the years; and was manager at the Clear Lake Burger King in 1984.  When she “retired” she missed people, so she went to work at the AmericInn Motel in Clear Lake.  She left there due to health problems.

Leona loved to scrapbook, read, plant flowers, and follow the Minnesota Twins Baseball.  She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

Leona is survived by her husband, Lester Taylor, Clear Lake; two children, John (Jenni) Taylor, Clear Lake, and Wendy (Ron) Rindels, Jewell, Iowa; grandchildren, Ben (Caitlyn) Hislop, of McCallsburg, Iowa, and Matt Hislop, Des Moines, Iowa; step-grandchildren, Chelsea (Adam) Kepler, Colorado Springs, Colo. and Mallory (Adam) Hove, Des Moines, Iowa; a great-granddaughter, Ava Hislop; sister, Donna Mae (Garth) Willis, Dows, Iowa and brother, Donnie (Barbara) Meyer, Hampton, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Gilberta Taylor, Finley, ND and Sue Taylor, Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.

Leona was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Wayne Meyer; and her parents-in-law, Gilbert Taylor, Leroy Vanston and Arlene Taylor Vanston.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
