Cardinal boys drop two soccer games
It was a tough week for the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys soccer team, as they dropped three games, moving their record to 1-3.
Webster City 2, GHV 1
The Cardinals faced Webster City on Monday, April 23. The Lynx won the match, 2-1.
“Webster City is always a quality opponent and very fundamental,” said Coach Eric Williams.
The game started very fast with Connor Burke scoring a goal in the first 15-minutes of play. From there, GHV seemed to have trouble controlling the ball and maintaining possession.
Burke led the team with five shots on goal and Ryan Meyers had two. Burke also had two shots and Seth Miller, Meyers and Jonah Albertson had one shot a piece.
Landon Dalbeck had four saves at the goalie position.
IF-A 2, GHV 1
GHV played another quality team when they faced Iowa Falls-Alden on Tuesday, April 24.
The Cardinals came out ready to play, scoring first, but were once again not able to maintain possession.
“We definitely had our opportunities, but couldn’t finish,” said Coach Eric Williams. “We have been changing our formations, personnel and substitutes to try and find a lineup. The encouraging part is that we are getting a lot more freshmen time.”
Dane Whipple was the lone Cardinal to score a goal.
Connor Burke led the team with six shots on goal and three shots. Whipple, Jonah Albertson, Austin Bahensky, Ryan Meyers and Seth Miller had one shot apiece on goal.
Landon Dalbeck had 11 saves in the goalie position and Brady Hess had one save not as keeper. Dalbeck had one goal scored against him in regulation and four in shootout.
“Iowa Falls is a good team, so playing so close to them was really encouraging,” said Williams.
