Good attitudes aid CL girls track team

The Clear Lake girls track team continues to bring a positive attitude towards every meet, according to their coach, Shawn Puttmann.  Last week the Lions competed in two meets and their attitude paid off with improvement.

Indian Relays

The Lions were at Forest City Tuesday night, April 23, competing against 23 varsity and junior varsity teams.  Clear Lake was limited to 20 points, but Coach Shawn Puttmann noted at least two personal records were set by Lions.

“Gabriela Gonzalez is coming back and putting in some better times in the 100 and 200 for us.  She has been plagued with injuries this year,” said Puttmann.  Gonzalez had a personal best in the 100, running a 14.32 to place seventh, and in the 200, where she was seventh in 30.01.

Macy Mixdorf also continues to do well for the Lions in the 400 hurdles.  She was fourth in 1:18.63.  Olivia Amos was sixth in 1:22.05.  In the open 400 Cooney was fifth in 1:08.46, while Mixdorf was sixth in 1:08.57.  Cooney was also 7th in the 800 in 2:54.31.

Bulldog Relays

The Clear Lake girls made gains in their scoring at the Bulldog Relays held Friday in Hampton.  The Lions were led by Riley Cooney and Macy Mixdorf, who scored third and sixth respectively in the open 400.

“Both of them had their best times of the year in spite of the windy conditions,” pointed out Coach Shawn Puttmann.  “Riley also improved her time in the open 800 by 12 seconds.  Macy did a excellent job in the 400 hurdles again putting in her best time of the year 1:14.22 and taking a first place finish.”  Mixdorf ran the race in 1:14.22.

Clear Lake’s Sprint Medley team also took another four seconds off their best time at the meet and placed third.

“We are getting back on track with the shuttle hurdle team and had our best time of the year so far,” said the coach.  Olivia Amos, Mixdorf, Ashley Archer and Sky Toyne were second in 1:15.51.
