Lillian Hill
Lillian “Ruth” Hill, 96, of Mason City, Iowa, formerly of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at Good Shepherd Health Center, in Mason City.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Faith Baptist Church, Mason City, with Pastor Greg Gosnell officiating. Burial was at Clear Lake Cemetery in Clear Lake.
Family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice of North Iowa or to Faith Baptist Church in Mason City.
Ruth was born on March 12, 1922, the daughter of Chauncey and Alice (Eyestone) Merwin in Comanche, Tex. She married Richard L. Hill on May 10, 1942, in Mason City. He preceded her in death on Oct. 17, 2016.
A graduate of Clear Lake High School, class of 1941, Ruth attended NIACC following high school. She worked as a self-employed seamstress for most of her career.
Ruth was a member of Evangelical Free Church, in Clear Lake, where she and Dick started the AWANS Program in 1982 and directed it for almost 20 years. They both volunteered and were resident advocates at One Vision (Opportunity Village). Together, they enjoyed traveling, reading, studying the Bible and spending time with family. Ruth also enjoyed sewing and was an election judge for Cerro Gordo County well into her 80’s. She eventually became a member of Faith Baptist Church, in Mason City.
Ruth is survived by three sons, Steven (fiancé, Cindy Weimert) Hill, of Mankato, Minn., Ed (Carol) Hill of Winter Garden, Fla. and Brian (Jackie) Hill, of Oak Park, Ill.; grandchildren, Jessica (Aaron) Hatanpa, Benjamin (Kirsten) Hill, Anna Hanratty, Adam (Jen) Hill and Alex Hill; great-grandchildren, Lenlie, Jennings, and Huxen Hatanpa, Mathew, Tristan, and Olivia Hill, Luke Hanraty, Kayliegh and Avery Hill; two sisters, Sara (Ed) Lyons and Carol May (E.C.) Wilson; a brother, Paul (Tillie) Merwin; and a sister-in-law, Charlotte Hill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter-in-law, Monica Hill; sisters, Mary Elizabeth, Helen, Kathryn, Jane, Doris, Althea, and Pauline; and brothers, Arthur, Jim, Ralph and Dave.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
