Whitney Mahaffey
Whitney Lynn Mahaffey, 24, of Clear Lake, died on May 8, 2018, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City due to complications from Huntington’s Disease.
A memorial service was held Saturday, May 12, at First Presbyterian Church, in Mason City, with the Rev. Paul Collier officiating.
Whitney’s body was donated to medical research. Private inurnment will be held at a later date at the Clear Lake Cemetery, in Clear Lake.
Whitney was born in Waterloo, Iowa, on June 21, 1993, the daughter of Carl (Mike) Melver and Shirley (Sherry) Beck. Whitney was adopted by Michael and Amy Mahaffey in 1998.
Whitney attended Clear Lake High School before attending vocational and habilitative programs at One Vision where she created many lasting friendships. Whitney loved riding her horses, participating in 4H and trail riding. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit and radiant smile.
Whitney is survived by her parents, Michael and Amy Mahaffey; sister, Michaela Mahaffey and Timothy Culler, of Clear Lake; brother, Jordan Mahaffey and Kendra Ackerman, of Portland, Ore.; sister, Megan Mahaffey and Emily Mahaffey, of Huxley; her grandmother, Marjorie Jensen, as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.
Whitney was preceded in death by her brother, Jesse; and grandparents, Warren Jensen, Ralph and Carolyn Mahaffey.
Memorials can be sent to the family who will direct them to One Vision or U of I Huntington’s Disease Research Center.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
