Two-vehicle collision send three to hospital

Three people were injured in a two-vehicle collision Saturday, Dec. 15, north of the Mason City Municipal Airport.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident happened around 3:46 p.m. on 300th Street (County Road B-20), west of Killdeer Avenue.

Officials said Ronald Hanson, 81, of Forest City, was driving a 1996 Chevy Lumina east when he crossed the center line and struck a westbound vehicle driven by Saidou Fofana, 30, of Mason City. Hanson’s vehicle came to rest on the southbound shoulder of 300th Street, while Fofana’s vehicle stopped in the eastbound lane of 300th Street.

Hanson was taken to Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa with what emergency responders called possible life-threatening injuries.  According to hospital officials, he was treated and transferred to another medical facility.

Fofana and a passenger, Ibraham Fofana, of Mason City, were also taken to Mercy with minor injuries and were treated and released.

This accident forced the temporary closure of a section of 300th Street/B20.

The accident remains under investigation.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, Clear Lake Fire, Mason City EMS, and Mercy Air assisted at the scene.
