Team titles accumulating for boys track

The Clear Lake boys track team is a team to be reckoned with this season. The team captured their fourth team title, are breaking records and they continually are improving their times.
Osage Meet
The Clear Lake boys track team captured their third team title on Tuesday, April 27, in Osage. The team scored 148 points in the eight team field. Charles City was second with 129 points and St. Ansgar was third with 93 points
“This was the third meet in a row that we have won, which I believe is a school record, or at the least the first time in the last 20 years,” said Coach Troy Tysdahl. “We had balanced scoring from all areas and team members.”
The team won four of the seven relays and placed second in two others. There was a total of 31 varsity and JV individual and relay season best times and distances. The JV team also had success, winning eight events and placing second with 106 points.
Austin Warnke had a great time in the 100 meter dash, which puts him fifth in Class 3A. Warnke placed second in the race with a time of 11.11. Tanner Reimann won the 200 meter dash with a huge personal record of 22.60, placing him fifth in Class 3A.
Justin Wright had an excellent night winning both the 800 meter run and the 1600 meter run. In the 800 his time was 2:11.82 and in the 1600 he completed the race in 4:55.82.
The Lions had a one-two finish in the 400 meter hurdles. Zeke Nelson won the event in 58.06 and Jack Crane was second with a time of 1:00.78.
The four winning relays included the 4x100, the 4x400, the sprint medley and the distance medley. The 4x100 team of Tyres Green-Harrington, Reimann, Jagger Schmitt and Warnke got around the track in 44.47. The 4x400 team ran the race in 3.36.71. Team members included Jaden Wright, Tyson Cooley, Warnke and Schmitt. The sprint medley team of Jay Kapler, Warnke, Schmitt and Reimann won the race in 1:40.15. The distance medley team of Kapler Carson Odor, Jordan Bergman and Justin Wright clocked a 3:58.27.
Placing second in relays were the shuttle hurdle team and the 4x800 team. The shuttle hurdle team of Nelson, PJ Feuerback, Crane and Cooley ran the race in 1:06.23. The 4x800 team of Jack Englin, Justin Wright, Jaden Wright and Andrew Mixdorf completed the race in 9:04.71.
“This entire group continues to work at daily improvement and is really fun to be around. This was another great night to be a Lion,” said Tysdahl.

Jim Basye Co-Ed Relays
The Lions continued the winning streak with another team title at the Jim Basye Relays on Friday night, April 30, despite having several athletes out. The team scored 128 points to take the championship out of 10 teams. Forest City was second with 101 points and Charles City was third with 98 points.
The highlight of the meet was the shuttle hurdle team who set a new school record on their way to first place. The team of Zeke Nelson, PJ Feuerbach, Jack Crane and Tyson Cooley broke the record in 1:03.64. Cooley went on to take second in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 16.27. Nelson and Crane placed first and third in the 400 hurdles with times of 57.43 and 1:00.22 respectively.
“Our hurdlers have been working very hard on technique and speed and their times are consistently dropping,” said Coach Troy Tysdahl. “Our hurdle coach Vernon Johnson has done a great job with these young men and they are trending in the right direction.”
Justin Wright and Jagger Schmitt took first and second in the 400 meter dash. Wright ran the lap in 51.31, while Schmitt ran the race in 52.09.
Tanner Reimann won the long jump with a leap of 20’4.25”.
The 4x800 relay team of Tanner Reimann, Andrew Mixdorf, Jaden Wright and Justin Wright ran a season best time of 8:32.80 to win the race.
Also running a good race was the sprint medley team, which placed second with a time of 1:37.39. Team members included Tyres Green-Harrington, Jordan Bergman, Schmitt and Austin Warnke.
Warnke’s speed came through again in the 100 meter dash where he placed second with a time of 11.63.
“This meet showed the overall strength and depth our team has and the versatility of many of our kids being able to succeed at multiple event,” said Tysdahl.
