One Vision offers seniors a new place to gather

by Marianne Gasaway

There may be something to the old adage that when one door closes, another opens.

Days after the Clear Lake Senior Center was shuttered, a local entity has stepped up to provide seniors with a place to gather.

Kimberly Boyd said news of the Senior Center’s demise started her thinking.  As property manager for the Glen Oaks Community, located on the One Vision (formerly Opportunity Village) campus in Clear Lake, Boyd works with seniors daily.  She wondered if her facility might be able to host some of the activities seniors have enjoyed for more than 40 years.

Boyd announced that beginning Monday, Oct. 4, One Vision will offer seniors some options for socialization at its Kinney Lindstrom Center (KLC), 1200 N. 9th St. W.

Mondays, between 9 and 11 a.m., seniors are invited to

a “coffee chat” in the Atrium and Silver Pines Club Room within the KLC.  There is no charge to attend, however good will donations are accepted. From 1-3 p.m. Tuesdays there will be billiards and fellowship in the Silver Pines Club Room and Atrium.  Wednesdays, 1-3 p.m., cards and 500 will be played at the same location.  There is no charge for the activities.

There won’t be meals or snacks served at the activities, but those attending are welcome to bring their own, Boyd said.

There will also be some free special events throughout the month.  In October, two singing sessions, a Lunch and Learn (with reservation) and an open house are on the calendar.

“Depending on participation and interest we can adjust as we move forward,” promised Boyd.

And while there is plenty for seniors to enjoy at no charge, there are also amenities at the One Vision campus available for nominal fees. For as little as a $5 day pass, an $80 six-month, or $140 annual membership, the Boyer Pool and hot tub, as well as inside walking paths, gym with pickleball, fitness center and fitness classes can be utilized.

Those planning to attend senior activities should enter the One Vision building using its south or west entrance.
