Nedra Darlene Florer
Our beloved mother has gone to heaven after a long well-lived life. She passed away November 20, 2024 after a brief illness in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Nedra Darlene Florer nee Farnsley was born in Afton, Iowa, but raised in Mitchelville, Indianola, then Des Moines. After graduating from North High School, she went to work as a secretary for Western Mutual Insurance Company. There she met her future husband, Hadley. After WWll, they married, settled in West Des Moines, and had four daughters. A job opportunity brought them to Mason City, then 18 months later they moved to Clear Lake where she lived her life.
Hadley passed away in 1964, leaving Nedra to raise her four daughters, manage Willowbrook Plaza Shopping Center, which Hadley had co-developed and co-owned, along with other properties. She was also on the Ventura School Board, president of the PTA, a Girl Scout leader, and active in Music Mothers, TRI-T, and the Clear Lake Methodist Church.
Nedra loved to play Bridge. She was in several clubs over the years. She also loved to bake, and was known for her cakes, pies, and bars. Nedra spent part of many winters in Scottsdale, Arizona, where she owned a townhouse so was able to enjoy time with her Arizona daughters and families.
Nedra is survived by three daughters, Nancy Hogan-Smith (Andrew) of Fountain Hills, AZ, Sandra Martinez (Pablo) of Lakeside, AZ, and Cynthia Florer of Clear Lake, her three grandsons, Jay Cowan (Ashley) of Solana Beach, CA, Blake Cowan (Danielle) of Sterling, CO, and Clark Aboud (Onalisa) of Athens, AL, her great grandson, Clark Aboud Jr., and two great granddaughters, Soraya Aboud, and Hadley Cowan. She is preceded in death by her husband Hadley, her daughter Janelle Cowan, her five siblings, and her parents.
No services are planned at this time. She is buried next to Hadley in McLaren’s Resthaven Cemetary in West Des Moines. Nedra will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
