Charles Sheakley

Charles “Chuck” Sheakley, 91, of Clear Lake (formerly Algona) and Phoenix, Ariz. died Thursday, June 12, 2025. Visitation will be at Lentz Funeral Home in Algona from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on June 28, 2025, followed by a private, family-only gravesite service with Pastor Jason Miller officiating. Chuck was born to Edward and Florence Sheakley on August 12, 1933, in New Hampton. Growing up in New Hampton he enjoyed playing sports, hunting, and was also an Eagle Scout. He graduated from New Hampton High School in 1951, then continued his education at Iowa State University and became a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He met his wife, Chloe Chittenden, at Iowa State and they were married in 1952. Both graduated from Iowa State University in 1955. They moved to Minneapolis after graduation, Rapid City, S.D. and then to Algona in 1962. They raised six children in Algona. Family was very important to both, and they were hard workers.
Chuck and Chloe opened Sheakley’s Ready to Wear in Algona in 1962, along with several Beauty Shops in the area, until 1979. From there they partnered with Merle Been to start Farm and Home Publishers in Belmond and later, City Directory Inc. They both enjoyed splitting their time living in Algona in the summer and Phoenix, Ariz. in the winter.
Chuck is survived by four children: Kristi Sheakley of Goodyear, Ariz., Ed Sheakley (Sheila) of Oklahoma City, Ok., Cliff Sheakley (Laurie) of Clear Lake and Clare Bunnell (Steve) of Dallas, Tex., grandchildren: Stephanie McNamara (Mitch), Brett Honn (Jenni), Lucas Honn (Aundrea), Gavin Sheakley (Avery), Justin Sheakley (Janae), great grandchildren: Teagan and Liam McNamara, Noah and Kyler Honn, Kayleigh and Ava Honn, Dax Sheakley, Khloe, Kennedy, and Kamrynn Sheakley. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Chloe, and two daughters, Cindy and Shari.
Memorial donations can be made to Mayo Clinic in Chuck’s name.
