Allan Lee Angle
Allan Lee Angle, 69, of Clear Lake, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025, in Rochester, Minnesota, after courageously battling interstitial lung disease, myopathy, and muscular dystrophy.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at Ward Van Slyke Funeral Home, 310 1st Avenue North, Clear Lake, with Mark Doebel officiating. A private interment will be held at Clear Lake Cemetery.
Born on October 4, 1955, in Iowa City, Iowa, Allan was the son of John and Marilyn (Byerly) Angle. He was raised in Clear Lake and graduated with the Class of 1974. From an early age, Allan distinguished himself both athletically and artistically. As an accomplished athlete, he excelled in football and track and field. Equally gifted in music, he played the trumpet, sharing his talents with the high school jazz ensemble.
He married Charity Schmitz in 1978, and together they welcomed three children and lovingly fostered their niece for 12 years.
Allan pursued higher education at North Iowa Area Community College before earning his degree from Mankato State University. He also served honorably in the United States Marine Corps Reserve.
Later, Allan was united in marriage to Julie Shurson on June 28, 2002.
Throughout his professional career, Allan was a dedicated computer programmer/analyst at Curries Industries for over three decades. Even after his retirement in 2021, his commitment to his work drew him back for nearly two additional years in a part-time capacity. Beyond his vocation, Allan dedicated several years to studying for the lay ministry as a way to deepen his Catholic faith and understanding, reflecting his commitment to spiritual growth.
A man of diverse talents and enduring curiosity, Allan found great satisfaction in woodworking, particularly in restoring antique furniture and thoughtfully renovating the late-1800s home he and Julie shared. His projects were never hurried; instead, they reflected the meticulous craftsmanship he learned as a boy on his grandfather Byerly’s farm, where he first discovered the satisfaction of working with his hands. He enjoyed charcoal drawing, experimenting in the kitchen, cultivating abundant vegetable gardens in his earlier years, and later tending vibrant flowers around his home. Allan was a voracious reader of nonfiction, a devoted football enthusiast, and an admirer of classic westerns and Willie Nelson’s music.
Allan is survived by his wife, Julie Angle; his children, Jeremiah (Sarah) Angle, Elisabeth (Michael) Moore, Nicholas (Meaghan) Angle, and Mary (Josh) Quenga whom he lovingly raised as his own; stepchildren, Andrea (Scott) Schmidt and Benjamin (Margaret) Casebolt; grandchildren, Tyler Angle, Madeline Moore, Kiera and Bryn Angle, Paxton, Porter, and Marley Quenga, Nathan and Emily) Schmidt, and Samuel and William Casebolt; siblings, John (Dorene) Angle, Marilyn “Cam” Kline, and Lynette (Lee) Angle-Smith; and his stepmother, Jane Angle.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Allan will be remembered for his unwavering spirit, intellectual curiosity, and devotion to those he loved. His legacy of craftsmanship, integrity, and quiet strength will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
