Remember When 6-29-2016

(Above) 1991 4th of July celebration - The Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce combined soaring patriotic feelings and a marketing effort to make the 1991 Fourth of July celebration a record-breaker.  Totals showed that the carnival and parade set records for attendance and revenues.  Police Chief Dan Jackson estimated the crowd along the parade route as 35,000 to 40,000 people.  There were 180 units in the parade.

Lions slip to number two in rankings

The Clear Lake boys slipped to number two in the Class 2A rankings this week. The Lions improved their record to 17-4 with six wins and one loss in a week destined to get them ready for post-season play starting on July 12.

Class 3A Region 2 softball post-season

Clear Lake and Garner-Hayfield-Ventura have both been assigned to Class 3A Region 2 for post-season softball play.  However, the two teams will play on opposite sides of the Region bracket.

Clear Lake will open post-season plat Wednesday, July 6, at Cresco against Crestwood in a 7 p.m. game.  The winner will meet the winner of the Osage vs. Forest City game in a 7 p.m. game in Cresco Friday night, July 8.

Tough week for the GHV girls

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura softball team couldn’t have had a much harder week, as they dropped all their games, two in shut-outs.

Bishop Garrigan 10, GHV 0 (6)

It was a tough night for the Cardinals when Bishop Garrigan came to town on Wednesday, June 22.  The Golden Bears recorded a 10-0 shut-out against GHV in six innings.

Ashley Markla pitched all six innings and took the loss on the mound.  She gave up eight hits, walked six and struck-out three.
