Clear Lake girls earn post-season honors

Post-season honors are plentiful for members of the Clear Lake girls basketball team.

In addition to being a unanimous First Team All-North Central Conference pick, junior Emily Snelling was named to the Class 3A Northwest Regional team, All-District Team and was a Third Team All-State selection.

The 6th Annual Battle of the Badges was held on Friday, Feb. 19, in Mason City.  The hockey match is played yearly for Make-A-Wish, with law enforcement vs. firefighters and EMS personnel.

The event began with a ceremonial puck drop with several local “Wish Kids” and an honor guard presentation.

Lau earns conference recognition

Garner-Hayfield-Ventura junior Hannah Lau earned Honorable Mention recognition in the All-Conference roster for the TIC West Division.

In league action, Lau was 11th in scoring with a 13.8 points per game average.  She was third overall in field goal percentage.  Lau was also a top rebounder, finishing third overall in the league with 138 rebounds.  She was also third in blocked shots with 16 for the season.

Clear Lake High School graduate Jacob Colon won an individual title and helped the Grand View College wrestling team to an  unprecedented fifth-straight team national title Saturday at the 2016 NAIA Wrestling National Championships  The 59th annual event took place at the Kansas Expocentre for the third-straight season.

Adult Coloring Club takes off at library

Sandra Jackson chuckled as she put colored pencil to paper last week, “It’s definitely different than coloring with my grandchildren.”

Jackson and a handful of others took a brief junket from their busy lives to try a new Adult Coloring Club at the Clear Lake Public Library, “Just Add Color.”  An hour has been set aside (1-2 p.m.) on the first Thursday of each month to provide an opportunity for adults to give coloring a try.

NIACC women heading to Nationals; Peterson earns individual honor

The NIACC women’s basketball team is heading back to the NJCAA National Tournament in Overland Park, Kan., following a 83-80 victory over DMACC Saturday night.  The win was the second Region XI title in the last three seasons for the Lady Trojans.

Trudy Peterson, a former Clear Lake High School standout basketball player, is one of the starting players on the NIACC roster.
